Psalm 111:10, “To him belongs eternal praise.” The last phrase of this psalm sums up the words well, eternal praise of the Lord who is worthy above everything else.
Psalm 112:4, “Even in darkness light dawns for the upright” and “Surely the righteous will never be shaken” (112:6). This psalm supports those who have chosen the path of faith, the righteous ones who put God first in their lives. Generations will enjoy the fruits of their commitment. Lord I pray this is the case!
Psalm 113:3, “From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.” God takes care of his people, even the poor and childless, there is no one like our God. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord!
Psalm 114. Referring to the Exodus, this psalm reminds us that God designed nature and God can do as he pleases. “Why was it, sea, that you fled?” (v5) and “Who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water” (v8). The Lord does this for his people. All honor and praise belong to the Lord alone.
Psalm 115 – Not To Us, But To Your Name Be The Glory. The title of a great worship song and the opening verse in this psalm. Those who make idols are worshiping a false god indeed, idols that are simply made by human hands. They can’t see or hear, taste or feel: “those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them” (v8). It’s an interesting insight, one I don’t recall reading before, but the psalmist makes a great point, those who worship the works of their hands (or works of others) will be unable to hear, taste, see or feel the glory that awaits them from God.
Psalm 116:7, “Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.” Such a great verse to comfort us in times of stress, may we all remember the Lord has been exceedingly good to us. “The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion” (v5). Take refuge in the Lord, he will rescue us always.
Psalm 117. Just two verses, this short psalm struck me as a round where different sections of people alternate verses. I’m thinking they had a lot of fun with this psalm. Not just the frozen-chosen, sing with joy and have some fun!
Psalm 118:6, “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” This is a verse we need to engrave on signpost for all to remember! “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone” (v22).
