  1. We don’t know when Christ will return again, but we must have faith that he will do as he said…the Bible records account after account of God fulfilling promises. Not knowing when means we have to be diligent and faithful in our work. To those who are working for Christ, these words are an encouragement: “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns” (Matthew 24:45-46). But when we slip, when we stumble, we are reminded, “The master of that servant [the one who assumes his master isn’t coming back anytime soon (24:48-49)] will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of” (24:50). It will not be good for that person.

Being part of a growing, vibrant church helps us stay on track, to hold steady on the course Christ has laid for us to follow. When we retreat to our own selfish desires and withdraw from others, the risk of becoming the second servant in the above story is practically inevitable. Lord help me to be faithful and wise as your servant, help me be consistent in doing this every day!
