  1. Today we read the last two chapters of the Old Testament, what a fast trip through centuries of history, great stories of our ancestors. God concludes his discussion with us by telling us, “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me” (Malachi 3:1). The prophet foretells the preaching of John the Baptist, a voice in the wilderness that cries out for all to prepare for Jesus Christ.

“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed” (3:6). Many times we recall the stories of transgression after transgression, yet God remains faithful, even through difficult discipline. Over and over again the Almighty Lord says, “Return to me, and I will return to you” (3:7).

It seems that many are confused by Malachi’s words, like the don’t want to hear his rhetorical questions, but there are a few, a remnant, “those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard” (3:16). We have a choice, we’ve always had a choice. From the Garden of Eden to the Del Monte Mall to the website we follow, we have a choice. Lord help me to learn these stories as a means to strengthen my faith and understanding of your precious gift in that of Jesus Christ.
