  1. This chapter (along with the next) portrays a time when Israel is still occupying the promised land. The tribe of Dan had yet to settle into their area. The creation of an idol (among idols) and the opportunistic priest (not named until the end of chapter 18) describe a people that are not connected with the rest of the Israelites; they’re on there own and making up their own theology/religion. This short story reminds me that we need to be in fellowship together, testing all we do with God’s word. We must not conform to the ways of the world around us like Micah was apparently doing. God’s direction is clear. May we never forget!
