The promise of a new covenant is a great relief after hearing of all the troubles Jeremiah foresees. “‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah…I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts” (Jeremiah 31:31,33). This section is referenced in Hebrews 8 and expanded in Hebrews 9:15 to say, “Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.” This is the great Good News!
