  1. Moses and Aaron received the blessing of the elders (4:29-31) and approached Pharaoh as God commanded. “Let my people go” (5:1) they requested of Pharaoh. I assume Moses knew the appropriate protocols for getting an audience with the king, but their request only cause Pharaoh to get angry. Another leader approached Pharaoh (5:15-16) and “the Israelite overseers realized they were in trouble” (5:19) and they voiced their indignation at Moses and Aaron, “May the Lord look on you and judge you! You have made us obnoxious to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us” (5:21). Moses goes back to God to whine, but God restates His plan to which Moses replies, “If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?” (6:12).

God called Moses–Moses did not independently decide to leave his comfortable life and agitate the king of Egypt! He revealed the evidence of his calling to the elders and they are convinced…they praise God for His plan for deliverance, even though they cannot foresee how God will deliver them. Moses acts and now has upset workers and slave master (Pharaoh). Yet he was called and though he may have whined more than once, Moses did what God commanded. He doesn’t question God’s plan, he only doubts his ability to be the key player God called him to be.

Is it possible that God is calling and I am so focused on the difficulty in making bricks that I don’t see His great vision? Lord help me to look beyond the work required and see your plan, your desire to save those who have wandered away or have yet to accept your love and amazing grace.
