We conclude the reading of Ecclesiastes with final words of encouragement, “Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind” (12:13). Taken by itself, the book of Ecclesiastes is depressing at best. How fitting this reading came during Easter weekend for we know eternity with Jesus awaits those who have accepted his amazing grace. When “the spirit returns to God who gave it” (12:7), we will rejoice for Christ paid the price for our sins and we will join in the banquet in heaven. Amen!
