  1. One of the themes in this reading remind me to be careful of my words, watchful of what I say…something I need reminding of all too often. A few examples: “so let your words be few” (5:2) and “The more the words, the less the meaning and how does that profit anyone?” (6:11). This is an important thought in the modern world where texts and emails (even blogs like this one) provide us ample opportunity to spout words at length without properly considering their weight or meaning. Yet we know from experience that the distillation process, the editing and refining of words, yield better results. If a 500 word essay starts out at 1000 words, it’s much better in the end. These thoughts convict me as I write them. God help me to guard my mouth and let my words few! I have more thoughts on chapter 7, but given the statement above, I guess I better stop.
