Song 8:8-14 — Final Advice
Toward the end of this intimate song, love’s enduring value is lifted high: “Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned” (8:7). The concept of being “utterly scorned” doesn’t resonate with me, but this translation made sense: “If a person tried to exchange all of his wealth for love, then he would be surely rejected.” (The Voice)
Love surpasses all. Sounds a lot like 1 Cor 13:13, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Amen!
