The simple truth of this parable is fairly evident: Satan has planted weeds among those who have been saved by Christ, the good seed. We can’t eliminate the bad, we will have to learn to fight for every ounce of good soil and nutrition we need to survive. It’s a struggle that Jesus and his angels will deal with in the future, at the end of time.
Jesus and his angels will take of identifying the wheat and the weeds. Our task is to spread more good seed, to make disciples, to move people toward Jesus–he’s the only one that can turn a weed into a fruitful plant. We need to be relentless in our efforts to plant good seeds, not so focused on removing weeds. It’s a different perspective of the problem. Jesus, in this simple parable, is helping us stay focused on the main thing we’re supposed to be doing.
Lord, help us to stay focused on planting more seeds of great faith.
