Let the Word evoke words. May your life encourage lives.
The amazing imagery of Christ being glorified here is stunning and wonderful. “Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy” (Isaiah 60:5). Much of the time we read words that show God’s displeasure in our sinful nature. While this is valid, it’s easy to get caught in the trap of thinking God is this immense being with a scowl on his face. Verse 5 provides the opposing view, Christ with a heart the throbs and swells with joy. In the Needtobreathe song “Garden,” the chorus includes, “let the songs I sing bring joy to you.” This is a powerful line that suggests we can indeed bring joy to the Lord. This is my greatest desire, may I bring joy to you Lord with every action, every decision, every word. If we test ourselves with this concept, we may just be the light of Christ to this dark world.
