  1. The first verse that popped out to me this morning was Esther 2:5, “the son of Shemei.” Oddly enough this sent me back to 2 Samuel 16:5-14 where Shemei wildly curses David. David’s tolerance is impressive, but eventually Solomon obeys David last request in 1 Kings 2:9 to “bring his gray head down…” This seems relevant to me because here we are I’m Esther where Mordecai shows a similar trait in refusing to “kneel or pay (Haman) honor” (Esther 3:2). Mordecai’s behavior is based on his desire to serve God, true, but his method creates a great problem for all Jews. Esther will come to the rescue soon enough. I pray that I will learn how to balance honoring God while not creating problems. Or at least only creating problems God wants!
