Let the Word evoke words. May your life encourage lives.
Paul continues to provide support for the church in Thessalonica as they combat those who are promoting an alternative gospel, “we ask you, brothers and sisters, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us…asserting that the day of the Lord has already come” (2 Thessalonians 2:1,2). Paul prods them a bit, “don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?” (2:5) and encourages them to “stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you” (2:15) while providing some insight into the antichrists that will certainly mark the end of time as we know it (2:3-12).
The convicting verses that really speak to me and my desire to know the Bible well are found in 2:11-12: “For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth.” Lord help me to be on my guard, to know your voice and hear only your words. Do not let me be deceived by the antichrists of this day and keep me far from any teachings that would distract others!
