Let the Word evoke words. May your life encourage lives.
Jesus’ words during the discussion about being the great shepherd is refreshing, “I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd” (John 10:16). Not just the Jews, but indeed, the gentiles and to the ends of the earth, many will be gathered to Jesus and many will enjoy the fullness of eternal life with our Lord and Savior.
The story of Lazarus will no doubt be a stumbling block for many. Lazarus was dead and buried in a tomb when Jesus arrived on the scene. Four days dead and buried. Jesus knows this and yet he calls out to God to show the people that he is indeed the Son of God. Many believed as a result of this sign, but many were threatened. “Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him. But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done” (John 11:45-46). I’ve heard similar words about preachers in the mega-churches in our country. It’s hard to know who to believe and whether it’s wise to follow the teachings of some. I pray for discernment and the ability to be in the first part of 11:45…those who believed. Likewise, if the preacher is a false prophet, I pray I can discern that as well. We’re warned there will be many who claim to serve God, yet they will deceive. Lord help me see the truth plainly.
