Let the Word evoke words. May your life encourage lives.
Today we begin our journey in the book of Hebrews. The author and audience is unknown, but the rich sermon presented in this book provide strong justification for Jesus Christ as the one who speaks for God to us. “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word” (Hebrews 1:3). Make no mistake and let their be no doubt, Jesus “became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs” (1:4).
Exact Representation. Jesus is God, the second part of the Holy Trinity. This is mysterious and probably the most challenging cornerstones of Christian theology to explain to those who do not embrace the faith. For evidence, the author of Hebrews points to several references in the Old Testament which, once again, expects that we are good students of the Old Testament, that we have actually read and understand the text. We may not need this foundation to have a full grasp of the significance of Christ, for surely we have faith enough, but the more we understand, the better we can witness to those who don’t know Christ. Lord, help me understand your word with such clarity that I might be able to lead others to Christ, to help them on their journey.
