Let the Word evoke words. May your life encourage lives.
“Because you rejoiced when the inheritance of Israel became desolate, that is how I will treat you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, you and all of Edom. Then they will know that I am the Lord” (Ezekiel 35:15). So we should take comfort in knowing that the Lord will not let our enemies prevail, it’s not our place to be concerned with the details. We should focus on serving him well, living in his will and not try to assume God’s throne. Such is foolishness.
Ezekiel prophesies that the mountains will be clean, the high places of idol worship will be removed and once again the Israelites will live and prosper there. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a hear of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” (36:26-27). This great promise of the Holy Spirit is one that we know well, one that we count on, yet one that our Jewish friends cannot fully accept. But this is key, “then I will save you from all your uncleanness” (36:29). Lord help us to accept your forgiveness and live a life worthy of your grace, not perfect, far from it, but striving to walk in your ways.
