As a staff, we will fly through the Book of Romans in one week…just 7 days. Many books have been written about these 16 chapters, so suffice it to say, we will truly be getting a quick overview as we read through Romans. There is much to be pondered and considered. May God give each of us the insight He wants us to have this week on this important section of the Bible.
“You, therefore, have no excuse” (Romans 2:1). That’s not the nicest way to appeal to others, but sometimes it’s important to be blunt, “for I am not ashamed of the gospel” (1:16). God’s invisible qualities are seen by all (cf 1:18-20), yet we are beyond disobedient. “Although they know God’s righteous decree…they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them” (1:32). Yes, the standard is set high right at the beginning of this writing. We must neither participate in these deprave practices nor approve those who do…in any way.
“God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance” (2:4). I hope we never forget this concept, “for God does not show favoritism” (2:11). God looks straight through all our intentions and outward gestures, he looks straight at the heart. Words are merely words if they are not from the heart and in tune with God. Teaching obedience is one thing, but being obedient is a whole different level.
Lord help me to be one who is true to your word, one who honors your kindness. Help me to show this love and kindness to others that they might become truly committed to Jesus Christ, fully repentant, leaving behind the evils this world so amply provides. And may all the glory and honor be given to you! Amen.
