Psalm 134. Just three verses to remember those who work the night shift at the temple, “Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord” (134:3).
Psalm 135. “Praise him, you servants of the Lord, you who minister in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God” (135:1-2). A reminder for those who are inside the gates working for the Lord, it is an honor and privilege to serve in the house where many come to worship, to find peace. We serve a great and mighty God who has done marvelous things: “Your name, Lord, endures forever, your renown, Lord, through all generations” (135:13). We will not worship idols, things made with hands of humans, “they have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust them.” (135:16-18)
Psalm 136. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good…his love endures forever” (136:1) is an old worship song by today’s demanding music culture, but one that brings joy to sing. The Lord is forever faithful, I will not tire from singing those words.
Psalm 137. One of the songs from Godspell that I remember, “On the Willows” is based on this psalm.
We must never forget our Lord, our rescuer, the one who saves, even when we are in a land that is foreign. Though swept away in exile, there are some of our forefathers that reminded us to sing with joy for the Lord is faithful.
