Isaiah chapter 59 contains just 20 verses; the first 19 outline offenses, sins against the Lord. All of this evidence should point to the conclusion that all of us are unworthy of the eternal glory which we desire. Verse 20 could read, “they are finished, cast out, removed.” Yet that is not what we read. Instead we are given great comfort if we do just one thing: repent our sins. “The Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who repent of their sins,” declares the Lord. “As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants — from this time on and forever, ” says the Lord (Isaiah 59:20).
“From this time on and forever” is an amazing statement considering the multitude of sin that precedes this verse; yet God is faithful, he has provided a way back from all this sin. “And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear” (1 Corinthians 10:13) assures us there is a way out. God wants us back and “will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
Praise God for love and patience with us. Pray that even today we might be a light for someone who is seeking to find their way out of the destructive path of sin.
